🎙PODCAST | Caracas-Madrid: the journey of the Venezuelan opposition

The latest twist in the Venezuelan elections of July 28 was the arrival in Spain in search of asylum of the opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, who landed in Madrid this Sunday. González Urrutia, was the headliner of a candidacy actually led by the historical opposition Maria Corina Machado, and is the latest in a long list of politicians opposed to the government of Nicolas Maduro and Venezuelan citizens who have ended up obtaining refuge and residence from the Spanish government.

We spoke with Andrés Gil, deputy director of elDiario.es and head of international news, to explain who Edmundo González Urrutia is, why he fled Venezuela and what consequences his departure could have in this Latin American country. With Irene Castro, correspondent of elDiario.es in Brussels, we review the details of the negotiations that led to the arrival of González Urrutia in Madrid, in which José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero, who served for years as a mediator between the government of Nicolás Maduro and the opposition, played a fundamental role.
