🎙PODCAST | Housing: criticism and self-criticism at an impasse

In Spain, access to housing has been a serious problem for more than 18 years, even before the bursting of the real estate bubble and the arrival of tourist apartments. Thus, those who protested against this situation were described as anti-system by the political and media authorities. Today, the weight of evidence that our situation is even worse leads public officials to talk about decent housing and the fight against speculation. However, none of the measures implemented by politicians were of any use unless they made the situation worse. And we have the feeling that in our country there is not and there will be no solution to a structural problem that has become chronic.

We spoke with someone who has worked in government, managing and implementing social housing policies to better understand what measures were implemented and understand why they didn’t work. We spoke with Alejandro Inurrieta, an economist who was part of the first government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, first as a technician at the Ministry of Economy, then as president of the Public Rental Company.
