In Spain there are many houses and constructions of all types built on flood-prone soils, most of them are in the Mediterranean provinces, but not only. In addition to everything that is already being built in areas at risk of flooding, there are a multitude of urban projects, from semi-detached houses to hotels, museums and major infrastructure, planned in areas likely to be flooded in due to flooding of rivers, ravines and torrents. They are distributed throughout the geography, from coastal areas to inland territories.
With Pau Rodríguez, journalist for elDiario.es in Catalonia, we understand better how some of these projects end up being realized even though they were planned in areas classified as flood-prone. With Javier Ayuso, from Castilla y León; and Alfonso Alba, director of Córdopolis, we discuss two real estate projects where the construction of thousands of housing units is planned on land declared floodable.
