In the last three months, approximately 1.6 million SIM cards have been registered in Afghanistan. This was announced by the representative of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Enayatullah Alokozai, TOLOnews reports.
According to Alokozaya, the ministry had to increase the number of employees involved in SIM card registration.
The Afghans themselves, interviewed by TOLOnews, believe that this will help fight crime.
“SIM card registration is beneficial for both security and other reasons. “Whoever is responsible for SIM cards must be held accountable.” – said the kabulite Hakimzada.
Mohamed IshaqAnother Kabul resident said:
“We have registered SIM cards, but we are still receiving messages about the need to register. “We want these messages to stop because they are somewhat annoying.”
According to a spokesperson for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, there are a total of 25 million active SIM cards in the country, of which only 13.9 million have been legally issued.
