Andalusia recorded in 2023 a total of 19,474 voluntary terminations of pregnancy (abortions). The rate I.V.E. in the Andalusian community has reached 12.25 per 1,000 women between 15 and 44 years old in 2023. This data exceeds both the rate of 12.05 recorded in 2022 and that of 10.62 in 2014, which indicates a increase of the incidence of this procedure in recent years. Furthermore, it should be noted that almost 25% of women who had voluntary abortions last year were from foreign nationality.
The incidence rate in Andalusia the highest are grouped into the age groups of 20 to 24 years old and 25 to 29 years oldwith a total of 4,406 and 4,221 voluntary interruptionsrespectively. A total of 18,439 abortions were performed at the woman’s request, while 14,851 were performed in pregnancies of eight weeks or less and 12,230 women had never had an elective abortion, the data shows extracted from the study on IVI carried out in Spain during 2023.
5,000 foreigners
Regarding lifestyle, 2,269 women lived as a couplewhile 10,121 were salaried workers and 15,026 were of Spanish nationality. Concretely, most women who perform IVI have a level of education with Baccalaureate either Similar FP and with university education, 7,018 and 5,065 women respectively.
Concerning the method of carrying out the interventions, those carried out by the Dilation and Aspiration method come first, with 16,796 applications, followed by Mifepristone and Prostaglandins. In relation to the type of center, 19,448 IVs were performed in private centers. Specifically, 8,279 women were not using any contraceptive method.
Private
Andalusian hospitals reported 37 IVs; 23 in public and 14 in private. In the centers outside the hospital In total, 19,437 took place: 3 in public and 19,434 in private. However, in public centers they recorded 17,760 requests for information, compared to 732 in private centers. At the woman’s request, a total of 18,439 voluntary terminations of pregnancies took place; because of a serious risk to the life or health of the pregnant woman, 510; for risk of serious abnormalities in the fetus, 495; and for fetal anomalies incompatible with life or extremely serious and incurable illness, a total of 30.
At the national level, the rate of I.V.E. In Spain, it reached 12.22 per 1,000 women between 15 and 44 years old in 2023. Concretely, at the national level, a total of 103,097 were recorded in 2023. I.V.E.an increase of 4.8% compared to 2022 (98,316 I.V.E.) and 8.7% more than in 2014, the year in which 94,796 IVEs were registered. This increase was observed in all autonomous communities, with the exception of Aragon and Navarra.
More precisely, at the regional level, significant differences are observed, since Catalonia has the highest rate, with 14.92 IVE per 1,000 women, followed closely by the Community of Madridwith a rate of 13.92. On the other hand, Aragon records the lowest rate, with 8.4 per 1,000 women.
In this context, the Ministry of Health stressed in a note the importance of continuing to work on sexual and reproductive education, as well as access to contraceptive methods, to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies.
