THE National Police stopped in Olot (Girona) to two individuals for blackmailing a man who accessed a page with adult content. On the said website, he “clicked” on a malicious link and the extortionists thus accessed his messaging application WhatsApp, in which a message appeared asking sexual services of a prostitute.
The man deleted the conversation, but once his contact was obtained, the individuals began extorting him. They told him that he had wasted the alleged prostitute’s time and therefore demanded an initial payment of 1,200 euros. They told him that if he didn’t pay, they would find out who he was and that he and his family would pay the consequences. Faced with threats, he formalized a transfer via “Bizum”, with the required amount.
Once this was done, they demanded more money and the threats continued to be accompanied by videos of torture and murder. It was then that the victim blocked his extortionists and decided to formalize the complaint at the Elda police station (Alicante). He explained to the officers that strangers forced him.
This is how investigators reached two men, aged 41 and 22, in Olot (Girona), who were looking for the so-called ‘Sextortion‘. The National Police warns that in these cases no payment should be made and a complaint should be filed since the criminals use the victims’ fear to obtain their demands. Sometimes they are also threatened to publish or send any type of image to those around them, which undermines their moral integrity.
