17 Oviedo and Espanyol fans arrested after violent clashes during First Division playoff match

Agents of National Policeas part of a joint operation with the Mossos d’Esquadraarrested 17 supporters who were allegedly involved in violent clashes on June 23 during the football match between the RCD Espanyol and the Real Oviedo. Some of those arrested are accused of public disorder and rioting.

The arrests, made this Monday, were carried out in different Catalan towns (12) and in the city of Oviedo (5). In addition to those arrested, twelve people are under investigation. It is not excluded that other arrests will take place since the operation remains open in different locations.

The events investigated occurred around 5 p.m. on June 23, when a riot took place on Paseo de los Railways from the city of Cornellà de Llobregat (Barcelona) between members of the two hobbies.

The radical supporters of the Asturian team were in the Plaza de la Sardana, in the aforementioned municipality, and during their journey along the Paseo de los Ferrocarrils, towards the stadium, they had the opportunity to meet supporters of the RCD Espanyol. All types of blunt objects and furniture such as bottles, chairs, glasses or cups were used during the fight.

The attacks spread throughout the surrounding area, affecting the area of ​​the nearby shopping center, where other people unrelated to the football match were present. As a result of these altercations, some participants were injured, including a Real Oviedo supporter who stood out for his seriousness, with a broken fibula and a gash to the head.

Other injured people also refused medical treatment to avoid being identified. On the other hand, the furniture of bars in the area also suffered damage to varying degrees.

Identified

After the corresponding police investigation, carried out jointly by the National Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra, it was possible to identify a large part of the people involved in the riot. The research was led by Court of Instruction number Three of Cornellà de Llobregat (Barcelona).

On the morning of Tuesday, October 8, five of the detainees were placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction number One of Oviedo, its owner decreing for all the precautionary measure of removal from the stadium.
