The Canary Islands continue to welcome cayucos, mainly on the island of El Hierro, the epicenter of immigration in recent days. The last to have crossed the Canary Islands Route were received yesterday evening around 3:30 a.m., with 68 migrants on board near El Hierro.
This is in addition to the rescue late yesterday afternoon, when Maritime Rescue accompanied a dinghy with 136 migrantsamong them 32 women and 17 minorsin the waters near the island of El Hierro.
The rescue, coordinated by the Tenerife Rescue Coordination Center, was carried out by the Adhara rescuer after receiving notification that there was a canoe approximately 18 kilometers (10 nautical miles) south of the port of La Restinga.
Once the cayuco was located, the salvamar accompanied the boat with the migrants to the port, where they were assisted by the security and health system, made up of personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), Care Primaries and the Red Cross, which assessed that everyone was in good condition in general.
