Two boats carrying Somali nationals capsized off the coast of Madagascar, killing 24 people, the Associated Press reports, citing a Somali government statement on Sunday.

“Twenty-four people have died after two boats capsize off the coast of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.” — writes the agency in reference to the Somali government.

AP report with reference to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia Ahmed Moalim Fikithat during the rescue operation in the accident area, 46 people were saved. The agency adds that most of the passengers were young Somalis and their destination is unknown.

According to the AP, a delegation led by Somalia’s ambassador to Ethiopia will travel to Madagascar on Monday to investigate the tragedy.
