The neighborhood of Arrosadia of Pamplona is about to undergo a profound transformation with the creation of a new urban center which will include the construction of 250 housing units and a large park. This renewal is part of an agreement between the Government of Navarrahe Pamplona City Hall and the Public University of Navarra (UPNA)whose goal is to revitalize the campus environment and improve the connection between the city and the university.
The works include the construction of 250 housing units on a surface of 24,835 square meters and the creation of 33,089 square meters new green spaces south of the river Sadarwhich will contribute to the city’s urban green infrastructure. Furthermore, the integration of these spaces with the river corridorby applying criteria of adaptation to climate change.
The project also envisages the modification of the Land use and land use plan (SIEP) of UPNA, which will allow the university to have more 20,000 square meters additional. This will facilitate the development of new teaching and scientific infrastructure, as well as improve the university’s connection with neighboring residential areas, particularly between Tajonar Street and the neighborhood of Lezkaïru.
The mayor of Pamplona, Joseba Asironstressed that this transformation “will create a new urban facade” which will improve both accessibility and quality of life in the area. In addition, half of the housing planned in the project will be official protectionwhich constitutes an important step in the Affordable Housing Plan of the municipal council.
The rector of UPNA, Ramon Gonzalostressed that this modification of the PSIS will allow the university to have more space to meet the needs teachers and researchers from the campus of Arrosadiawhile improving the connection of more than 11,000 people who visit the university center daily.
This project, which is in its first phases, represents an opportunity to reconvert the district of Arrosadia in a reference of innovation, sustainability And urban development.
