In six months, 26 children under the age of five have died of hunger in the province of Badakhshan in northern Afghanistan, kun.uz reports, citing the Etilaatroz newspaper.
According to the publication, 326 children with acute malnutrition were registered in the Faizabad hospital during this period.
At the same time, as the newspaper’s source stated, these statistics reflect a “normal situation” compared to last year.
Doctors attribute the rise in malnutrition to factors such as lack of nutritious food, poor quality of health services, poverty and limited access to health facilities.
According to aid agencies, some 2.9 million children under the age of 5 face severe food insecurity or risk of malnutrition across Afghanistan.
