Work accidents are increasing

Recently, the workers’ commissions reported that the number of fatal accidents has skyrocketed in the Community of Madrid since the beginning of this year. The number of accidents, including accidents on the road, and compared to the same period in 2023 (January-July), goes from 7,038 in 2023 to 8,122 in 2024, which represents an increase of 15.40 percentFatal accidents saw a significant increase of 100 percent, from 6 to 12.

As published by the aforementioned union, in recent years there has been a gradual increase in the number of accidents as a clear indicator that working conditions in Madrid companies continue to deteriorate and reflect the lack of commitment of companies to the fundamental rights of the working population. From CCOO, they indicate that this lack of commitment on the part of employers translates into low investment in the prevention of occupational risks in their companies.

Ana Belén Casado, secretary of occupational health of the CCOO of Madrid, demands that “act with the greatest firmness “against the damage to health and life caused by the non-application of the law on the prevention of occupational risks by Madrid employers and that all responsibilities are resolved through the actions of the Labor Inspectorate and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.”
