An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 mbLg shook the island of El Hierro, but also surprised the population of La Palma, a neighboring island, which revived the sensations just on the third anniversary of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, an eruptive period during which the palm trees experienced 8,652 earthquakes.
Although the earthquake was initially located in the Atlantic strip between the two islands, the revised calculation now places it in the municipality of Frontera, northwest of El Hierro, at 8:34 p.m. local time. The earthquake had a magnitude of 3.8 and had its epicenter at 29 kilometers deep.
The tremor was felt in several municipalities on the island and in La Palma, as well as in the Llanos de Aridane with intensity II-IIIand in El Paso, while residents of El Hierro also noticed movement in Frontera, Los Llanillos, Sabinosa and in the capital, Valverde, with intensity II.
This earthquake is added to the seismic series located last week in the area of the Enmedio volcano, in the oceanic strip between Tenerife and Gran Canaria, which registered a dozen earthquakes with a magnitude between 1.6 and 2.6. It has been an intense series, with at least Seven earthquakes in just over 25 minutes and at great depths, between 26 and 38 kilometers.
In addition, a few days earlier, another earthquake had been recorded in the north of Gran Canaria, specifically in Santa María de Guía, at a depth of 18 kilometres.
