A few 3.000 neighbors HE they concentrated this Sunday morning in Espuny Park, in the La Pitilla district Genil Bridgeto demand more citizen safety, given the last two fatal road accidents that occurred in the city. One of them was a collision between a motorcycle and a van. otherwhich occurred in the protest zone, a 24-year-old girl was run over and killed, and the driver fled.
In this protest mobilization, the Youth Safety Platformcreated following this tragic event. Its members, friends of the deceased, asked “justice and more security» after highlighting the “feeling of insecurity and fear” when going out into the street today.
In this sense, the president of the La Pitilla Neighborhood AssociationFrancisco Manuel Amorós, expressed the satiety which exists among the population for the high accident and vandalism rates in the municipality, revealing the urgent need for increased reinforcement of local police and civil guard troops, as well as more lighting, signage, speed bumps and security cameras, in the most conflict areas from Puente Genil.
“We welcome positively the measures which was announced by The town hall this weekend to combat uncertainty and the feeling of insecurity among citizens,” said Amorós, in reference to the municipal government’s announcement to urgently implement road and neighborhood safety measures.
Certainly, the head of this neighborhood group warned that “the the platform will now watch» so that these actions “are complete as soon as possiblebecause we don’t want any of this to fall on deaf ears.
Collection of signatures
The group also launched a collection of signatures which will be operational for two weeks in various commercial and hotel establishments in Puente Genil. “The objective of the association is to reach 20,000 signatures,” said Amorós, specifying that later they will be presented both to the City Hall and to the Government Sub-delegation.
He mayor of Puente GenilSergio Velasco, present at this gathering with members of the Municipal Corporation, underlined his “emotion» seeing all the population united in this actspecifying that “as first mayor, my task is to stand alongside the neighbors and urgently implement the shock plan announced on Saturday, because it is very necessary at the moment”. The councilor declared that, to do this, “we will seek the consensus of all political groups in plenary session”.
He also underlined, on the other hand, the effort and work carried out so far by the Security forcessince “I know they are very dedicated to research to locate the perpetrator of the fatal attack against the young woman in the town.
The concentration of neighborhoods began with a minute of silence in memory of fatality of this eventand later, a floral offering was made and candles were lit at the accident site.
