The firefighters of the Community of Madrid and the Special High Altitude Rescue Group (GERA) have rescued some 40 people stuck on the mechanical chairlift from the artificial snow ski resort of the Xanadú shopping center, to Arroyomolinos.
The Madrid 112 emergency service received the notification around noon. Apparently, the chairlift was paralyzed at the time when about 40 people, mostly children, were spread out on 13 chairs in the air.
Regional firefighters, the Red Cross, SUMMA and GERA troops went to the mega shopping center and They managed to trap everyone around 2:30 p.m.

All rescued persons were assessed by Summa, showing symptoms of mild hypothermia and were released on scene.
Located 20 kilometers from Madrid on the Extremadura highway, this shopping center opened in 2003 and has a long list of shops, restaurants and various businesses. But if it is known for anything, it isr to welcome the “largest indoor ski slope in Europe”.
The space offers a wide range of shops: youth fashion, cafes and restaurants, cinemas, gifts, jewelers, hairdressers, pharmacies, opticians, travel agencies… In addition, in Xanadú it is possible to visit ‘Atlantis’, a “new generation” aquarium which also boasts of being the “largest” shopping centre on the continent, with 2.3 million liters of water and more than 10,000 animals.
The main attraction of this place is the famous Indoor ski slope, “Madrid Snozone”which allows you to practice snow sports even in summer.
Within the huge commercial area of Arroyomolinos there is also ‘Illusion’a 5,000 square meter hall with 20 bowling lanes, an arcade area with state-of-the-art arcade machines and a space for celebrating children’s birthdays.
