A 41-year-old triathlete died during the celebration of Ironman Calella-Barcelona. According to RAC1, the SEM confirmed the discovery of the body of a woman, of Russian origin, floating in the water near Calella beach.
SEM personnel took the athlete to the arena to try to resuscitate her, although they were unable to do anything to save her life. The cause of the woman’s death is currently under investigation.
The event continued with the participation of more than 3,000 athletes in its 10th edition, a “demanding event that places Calella as world reference in triathlon“, according to the Sports Department of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
