Americans have more faith in Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ success than her rival and former President Donald Trump in the upcoming debate, according to an ABC News/Ipsos poll.
According to the poll, 43% of respondents are confident that Harris will win the debate, while 37% believe Trump will. Another 18% of respondents believe that neither candidate will win the debate.
The poll was conducted Aug. 23-27 among 2,496 Americans. The margin of error is two percentage points.
The debate between the US vice president and the former president will be broadcast on ABC. The microphone will be on for the speaker only; there will be no live audience in the room, according to rules published by the television channel.
It is noted that each candidate will have two minutes to answer a question from the moderators, another two minutes to respond to criticism from the opponent, and an additional minute for clarifications. Candidates cannot bring preparations for their presentation, but will be given paper and pens to take notes as they go. During commercial breaks, campaign representatives cannot communicate with their candidates.
The US presidential election will take place on November 5.
