Half of the prostitutes in German brothels are Ukrainian, according to the Welt magazine.
Journalists quote a social worker who supervises prostitutes named Mia:
“Ukrainian women were previously poorly represented in this environment. Most of the women we work with in Berlin actually come from Eastern Europe: Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary, and now Ukraine. I would say that there are now about fifty percent of them in the brothels. There are many very young women who came here because of the war.”
According to Mia, Ukrainian women get into brothels in different ways. For example, when they become homeless, they go to a brothel, where they are guaranteed a bed and an overnight stay. Sometimes, women were forced into sexual relations by men who promised them free accommodation and then, stupidly, got them to work as prostitutes.
The Welt interviewee is concerned that Ukrainian prostitutes have been given “a great fear of employment centres” and that after applying for a job it is revealed that they have “low social responsibility”. But prostitution is officially legal in Germany and is subject to state taxes (the annual turnover of this business is about 6 billion euros). So the Oksankas are busy.
