Precisely today, the Local Police of Palma has implemented the use of a new device, made available to it by the Balearic Public Security Institute (Ispib), for the accident investigationwhich works similarly to the black box on airplanes.
In a press release, local police said they have a new tool to investigate road accidents resulting in deaths or serious injuries.
Ispib has made available to the local police a system that allows accurate data to be obtained for accident investigations.
All vehicles approved since May 1, 2022 must integrate the EDR system which, during the 30 seconds before and five seconds after a collision, records certain vehicle data. Using software called CrashScan, Officers trained in its use can obtain variables as important as speed, distance before impact, steering wheel turns, pedal pressure or seat belt use.
The Palma Local Police will provide cover for the rest of the Mallorca Police when it needs to use this system, its coordinator being an officer with extensive experience in investigating traffic reports, assigned to the Traffic Unit. Accident Vehicles (UVAC).
