64% of entrepreneurs in Spain are over 40 years old

Spain is one of the countries with the fewest young entrepreneursas revealed by Emprende Report powered by Holded, the cloud business management software, in collaboration with Visma and Kantar. More specifically, research shows that 64% of Spanish SME owners are over 40 years oldwhile only 12.3% are under 34 years old.

These figures break with the imagination that links entrepreneurship to young people, since the proportion of young people who carry out their own projects in Spain It is significantly lower than other European countries such as France (37.90%), Belgium (37.30%) and Poland (31.80%). as indicated by the study based on the responses of more than 2,000 entrepreneurs from different European countries.

For 34% of people surveyed in Spain perceive legislation as a “complicated” obstacle or “very complicated” when starting a business. Just like administrative overload and compliance with regulations.

Another of the points that Spanish entrepreneurs face, according to the study, is funding, because 24.3% consider this to be one of the greatest difficulties to grow your business. In the Mediterranean region, 72% of entrepreneurs perceive obtaining financing as a complicated challenge, compared to 58% in the Nordic countries.

Concerning administrative tasks, 5 Mediterranean entrepreneurs out of 10 devote more than 40% of their time to these functions.

The report also reveals that 50% of SMEs surveyed were created in the last 15 years and the average age of an SME in Europe is 19.6 years.

While The gender distribution of entrepreneurs in Spain is almost equal because 44.5% are women and 55.5% are men.
