The Salvamar Macondo tows a cayuco with 72 occupants of sub-Saharan origin on board, including three minors, after locating them very close to the coast, next to Maspalomas beach, Maritime Rescue sources reported.

The occupants of the cayuco are all men and in apparent good healththe sources pointed out. Likewise, they indicated that the Salvamar with the boat should arrive at the port of Arguineguín around 6:30 p.m. (Canary Island time). The Las Palmas Maritime Rescue Center activated the Macondo boat when it was alerted by the Red Cross that one of its jet skis had spotted the canoe near the aforementioned beach.

This is the second canoe arriving this Monday in the Canary Islands, since the Salvamar Adhara also left this morning for rescue of another with 81 occupants, among them three minors, who arrived at the port of La Restinga, south of El Hierro, accompanied by the rescue boat. The one that arrived in El Hierro left from Sokone, Senegal, and its occupants are from Senegal, Gambia and Guineaas detailed by emergency service sources.
