Given the scarcity of studies on the subject in Spain and with the aim of knowing the prevalence and frequency of these behaviors and their impact on the psychological well-being of women, researchers from the Department of Psychology of the University of Córdoba (UCO) Ana M. Contreras Merino, Naima Z. Farhane Medina and Rosario Castillo Mayén carried out an x-ray of the problem in the country, unifying different types of street harassment in public or semi-public places.
The study, which involved 245 women aged 18 to 61, showed high rates of street harassment in the country. “98% of the women interviewed have experienced some form of street harassment during their life, 80% experienced it monthly and 25.7% daily,” explains the researcher. Naima Farhane.
