Palma to pay 2.5 million for Metropolitan Cinema to build new Pere Garau health center

Palma City Council will provide 2.5 million from the Capital Law for the closed Metropolitan Cinema, in order to build the new health center in Pere Garau, the most populated neighborhood of the Balearic capital with more than 30,000 inhabitants.

All this after today the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martinez, chaired the meeting of the Capital Council which took place in the plenary hall, in which the Minister of Commerce, Employment and Energy, representing the Government, also participated, Alejandro Saenz of San Pedroand that of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauza.

Regarding the representation of the Consell of Mallorca, the Minister of Territory, Mobility and Infrastructure was present at the meeting, Fernando Rubioand the Minister of Social Protection and President of IMAS, Guillermo Sanchez.

The majority of the agenda of the session focused on the approval of the change of destination of the economic elements of the Capital Law allocated in previous years to projects that either did not start or, although executed, generated a surplus of resources that the Palma City Council will now use to finance other actions.

In this way, with these surpluses, coming from the funds of the CAIB, in some cases, or from the Consell de Mallorca, in others, they will undertake investments long awaited by the citizens of Palma.

One of the planned actions is the aforementioned purchase of the old Metropolitan Cinema building, located in the Pere Garau neighborhood, an operation for which an allocation from the Capital Law in the amount of 2,496,991.70 euros was allocated.

Once the acquisition operation is satisfactorily completed, the City Hall intends to sign a transfer protocol with the Government’s Department of Health so that the offices will house the future health center of the district.

This is a historic request from the residents of this area of Palma that will put an end to the space problems presented by the current primary care facilities in one of the geographical areas with the highest population density.

On the other hand, with the elements coming from the economic surpluses of the Capital Law, the construction and development of the new socio-cultural equipment of GenoaThe building will acquire a multifunctional character with the offer of different services, such as a daycare, a library and a space for the elderly.

Within the framework of this same action, the adaptation of roads and the square will also be addressed, all with an allocated amount of 718,660.01 euros. At the same time, other surpluses released will be allocated to the redevelopment of Bisbe Planes square, andn Sant Jordi, in the amount of 107,316.89 euros.

In this case, the proposal is to transform the main square into a more attractive, safe and accessible space, improving the connection with the public school and leveling the street.

Given the time that has elapsed since the start of the contracting process for the works and the evolution of market prices, the need to add this item to the initially planned budget has been determined. Finally, it is worth mentioning various actions planned in Son Sardina: namely the neighborhood promenade project, with a budget of 115,244.02 euros, and the improvement of lighting, with an amount of 7,199.14 euros.

The execution of both projects has already begun, but to ensure their successful completion, it is necessary to have this new item, which amounts to a total of 122,443.16 euros.
