The Xunta detects 15 minors among the 800 adult migrants received this summer

Among the more than800 migrants arrived in Galicia throughout this summer, “and despite the fact that the central government has repeatedly guaranteed that they are exclusively adults,” There are 15 minors, As reported to the media this Tuesday by the Department of Social Policy, which the Xunta already officially exercises supervision over, after having immediately integrated them into the regional protection network.

“Currently, there are more than 800 migrants in our community (…), we are already close to a thousand people, but the curious thing is that among these 800 migrants, we have just detected that there are 15 minors,” he said. said this Tuesday the regional councilor, Fabiola García, visiting the regional public nursery school As Mariñas, in A Coruña. All of them, he said, are already integrated into the regional protection system and the Xunta will then proceed to educate them. “We want to thank the collaboration of the Government Delegation in Galicia, but we also regret that the central Government, that the Ministry itself, do not provide us with this data in a specific and direct manner”, said the head of Social Policy. These 15 minors already present in Galicia are added to the 54 agreed during the last two sectoral conferences.

“In fact, when it comes to minors, they automatically depend on the Xunta. They need to be integrated into the protection system and educated. And we are working with the prosecutor’s office to carry out the corresponding age tests. What we want is clarity, concreteness and to work to treat in the best possible way all the people who come to our community,” stressed the councilor. On the same subject, the regional president, Alfonso Rueda, also spoke out, criticizing the central government for the absence of any “criteria” to decide on the distribution of migrants arriving in Spain among the autonomous communities, but denied that Galicia was already overwhelmed.

Regarding the reception of minors, coincidentally, the State Government approved on Tuesday, in the Council of Ministers, the request of the Ministry of Youth and Children of allocate 35 million euros to the autonomous communities for the reception of 400 unaccompanied migrant minors and the transfer of 347 from the Canary Islands to the peninsula. As explained by the government spokesperson and Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría, 15 million will go to the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla; and the remaining 20 million will be distributed among the rest of the autonomous communities.
