The Telegram platform has apologized to South Korean authorities and has also complied with the requirement to remove pornographic deepfakes, Yonhap news agency reported.

A letter was sent to the Korean Communications Standards Commission in which Telegram announced the removal of 25 deepfakes containing pornographic content from its platform. A representative of the messenger apologized for the misunderstanding that had previously arisen between the platform and the regulator and provided a dedicated email address for communication on issues of violations.

The commission said it intends to cooperate with Telegram by creating a hotline that will help solve the problem of the dissemination of sexually exploitative materials.

As reported EADailySouth Korean police previously launched an investigation into Telegram.

The investigation follows public outrage over the publication of pornographic content featuring South Korean women, which was created using deepfake artificial intelligence technology. According to local media reports, such content is allegedly often found on Telegram.

In South Korea, a 20-year-old man was previously arrested, accused of creating 279 fake porn videos between May and July this year, after subscribers to his Telegram channel provided him with photographs of their acquaintances.
