Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar’s new film “The Room Next Door” received an 18-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival, Deadline reports.
It is clear that the standing ovation lasted even longer: 18 minutes and 36 seconds. The director himself, as soon as the lights went on in the hall, kissed the hands of the performers of the main roles. Tilda Swinton AND Julianne Moore.
At the same time, the publication doubted whether such a long-lasting delight was due to the public’s impressions of the film.
“The unusually long duration of the standing ovation was probably due to the fact that the cast and Almodóvar came down from the stands and remained there for a while, applauding along with the crowd.” — the portal suggests.
The Room Next Door was Almodóvar’s first English-language film. The director himself wrote the script for the drama based on the novel. Sigrid Nunez “What worries you?” The film is about two friends, one of whom has cancer.
The 81st Venice Film Festival opened on August 28. The main competition included 21 films by directors from France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Great Britain, Brazil, Canada, the United States, Singapore and other countries. This year’s jury is chaired by a French actress. Isabelle Huppert.
