“Salt increases blood pressure, while sugar and saturated fats promote chronic inflammation and atherosclerosis. Therefore, it is recommended to limit consumption of sugary carbonated drinks, cakes, pies, ready-made desserts, mayonnaise, ketchup, and also various salad dressings. As with white bread and packaged juices, frequent use of these products significantly increases the risk of stroke,” Popov said.

The expert also advises avoiding semi-finished products and fast food with a lot of added salt, sugar, trans fats, emulsifiers, thickeners and artificial sweeteners. Such products include chips, dry breads, ready-made breakfast foods, French fries, hamburgers, frozen pizzas and canned goods.
