Izquierda Unida expressed this Monday its uneasiness after the crisis in Sumar which caused the Íñigo Errejón scandal. The training asked the “a reorganization of the parliamentary group“, according to its federal coordinator, Antonio Maíllo, who maintained that “the conditions do not exist to appoint” a new spokesperson.
This was expressed by Maíllo before the meeting of the parliamentary group with Yolanda Díaz, where the Errejón case was discussed, since they had not been able to do so previously because the second vice president was on an official trip in Colombia. Despite what Maillo expressed and what the other members agreed on, the group left the meeting “very satisfied.”
According to group sources, to laSexta journalist Irene Rupérez, Díaz ““she was sincere” and “honest” and gave “all the necessary explanations”. Likewise, they recognized that she had a “difficult job”, but indicated that she was more “calm” because it was not easy for her to travel when the Errejón case broke out.
These sources, however, stressed that certain members of the parliamentary group requested that the “decisions” be taken “in a manner”horizontal“. They did not criticize at the time the nomination of Errejón because they considered him to be a good candidate, but they complained about the way in which it was carried out.
The most critical formation was that of IU, which seeks to recover its space, requiring “reorganization”. “We asked for a reorganization of the parliamentary group, where we make decisions in a democratic and consensual way and they have not been taken into account (…) When there is consensus and this is agreed, then the door speaker will be elected. Let’s not build the house through the window. The conditions are not met to appoint the spokesperson today“Maíllo has settled in.
He said it must be time to agree on a method of operation.collective” and “democratic” of the group and the political criteria that its management will develop. In fact, he indicated that the crisis of Errejón’s resignation, given the succession of complaints of alleged sexual violence against him, should be an opportunity to give him the “round like a sock” to the organization of the group into a Congress.
