Paiporta’s neighbors manage to get to the hotel on their own a week later

Neighbors of the town of Paiporta, one of the most affected by the floods which devastated Horta Sud last Tuesday, are beginning to organize themselves to take refuge in hotels and abandon their homes in the face of the situation. They talk about this possibility among themselves, without anyone proposing it to them among the institutions, as reported in this newspaper.

Óscar lives south of the ravine which crosses the town and which overflowed, carrying everything in its path. In front of the door of his house there is still an accumulation of debris that the neighbors have piled up and today is the first day he sees a machine that begins to remove it. “The water started to arrive towards this part, the other is cleaner, that’s where Pedro Sánchez and the king were,” he comments.

They have water and food, “more than ever at home”, because they are trying to accumulate it without knowing what awaits them. In the city, firefighters continued their rescue operations until yesterday, having to open entire walls of houses so residents could get out.

Faced with the unsustainable nature of this situation, several residents of the municipality are beginning to consider leaving their homes. Like most of the measures that have been taken since the disaster, in a self-managed manner. There is also panic over the possibility of losing their jobs, as many are expected to take up their jobs without knowing how to do so.

They remain partly isolated, without light or cover in some of the farms where people are still there. They have Internet in different places, but seemingly simple tasks like calling insurance or finding transportation become very complicated.
