The Var and the Alpes-Maritimes are on orange alert from Wednesday evening.

The departments of Var and Alpes-Maritimes will be placed on orange alert from 6 p.m. on Wednesday 4 September due to “storms”, announced Météo-France in its 6 a.m. bulletin.

The meteorological organization specifies that a “It is still possible to extend orange surveillance to other departments”.

“Severe storm degradation is expected this afternoon and overnight Wednesday into Thursday.”according to Météo-France.

Storm activity will increase significantly in the south-east, especially in the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes. Strong storms are expected, accompanied by very heavy rainfall in a short period of time, hail, gusts and significant electrical activity, the meteorological service warned.

Accumulations of around 60 mm to 80 mm are fairly widespread and peaks above 100 mm are expected for this event.
