2,500 counterfeit products seized at Cuenca fairgrounds and 12 people investigated

He Detachment of the Prosecutor and Borders of the Civil Guard Command of CuencaWith the support of representatives of the brand association, members of the National Police and the Local Police of Cuenca, carried out an intervention in the sales stands of the fairgrounds of the city of Cuenca, which resulted in the investigation of 12 people and the seizure of more than 2,500 products, including clothing, sports shoes, accessories, perfumes and mobile phone cases.

According to the Armed Institute, the events took place during the celebration of the fairs and festivals of San Juliánwhen agents of the Fiscal Detachment of the Civil Guard carried out several inspections in the stands located in the fairgrounds of the capital Cuenca; given the possibility of being involved in the sale of contraband and counterfeit products.

In two of the inspected stands it was possible to verify that counterfeits of well-known brands were being sold at prices considerably lower than those of the original products; All the fake products found were seized and the managers of these posts were investigated.

At the same time, a series of actions were carried out against this type of fraud, all resulting in the investigation of twelve people, and the seizure of more than 1,700 items of clothing – t-shirts, sweatshirts, sports equipment -, 154 pairs of sports shoes, 89 bags, 46 pashminas and scarves, 32 visors, 470 bottles of perfume and 311 mobile phone cases.

Thanks to this intervention, the Civil Guard has managed to eliminate from the market many counterfeits of major brands, whose economic value could amount to more than 200,000 euros.

For all these reasons, the Civil Guard investigated these twelve people as perpetrators of a crime against industrial property characterized by article 274.3 of the Penal Code, whose prison sentences vary between 6 months and 2 years and a fine of 12 to 24 months.

They are also charged with an administrative offence for smuggling, the fine for which varies between 1,000 and 5,000 euros.

The effects, investigations and police procedures carried out were made available to the Court of First Instance and Investigation acting as Cuenca Guardian.
