In the Donetsk People’s Republic, the court has passed a verdict against Nikolai Velichko, commander of a sniper squad of the 36th separate marine brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of a civilian in Mariupol, the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office announced this on September 4.
“The DPR court has issued a verdict against the commander of the third sniper squad of the 36th separate marine brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced Velichko to 25 years in prison, which he will serve in a maximum security penal colony.” – indicated by the supervisory agency.
According to the investigation, in March 2022, Velichko fired a sniper rifle at a passing civilian from a position in a private house on Slavyanskaya Street in Mariupol. The victim died instantly from his injuries.
The court found the accused guilty under paragraphs “g”, “l”, part 2, tbsp. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder committed by an organized group motivated by political and ideological hatred), part 1 of art. 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (cruel treatment of civilians in occupied territory).
