The U.S. Justice Department has charged six leaders of the Hamas terror group with mass murder and other crimes committed during the Oct. 7 terror attack in Israel. The indictment filed by Attorney General Merrick Garland describes the horrors endured by civilians in southern Israel, including American citizens.

The 38-page document details seven main allegations, including murders, kidnappings and acts of violence committed at the Nova music festival and at kibbutzim along the Israel-Gaza border. Those accused include senior Hamas members, including Yahya Sinwar, Khaled Meshal and Ali Baraka. As a result of the attacks described in the document, at least 43 American citizens were killed and another 10 are missing or abducted.
One of the most brutal attacks occurred at the Nova music festival, where Hamas militants executed dozens of participants using machine guns and grenades. The militants reportedly methodically attacked shelters where people, including US citizens, were trying to hide. More than 260 people were killed.
Other crimes listed in the document include the kidnapping and murder of civilians in Kibbutz Be’eri and Kfar Azah, where Hamas terrorists systematically killed entire families, including women and children. Some hostages, including elderly US citizens, were executed after being tied up and taken to Gaza.
Attorney General Garland stressed that the group’s actions on October 7 were the largest terrorist attacks in the group’s history and vowed to continue efforts to bring those responsible to justice. The document also mentions Iran and Hezbollah’s support for Hamas, highlighting the international nature of the conflict.
