The South Korean newspaper The Korea Herald, citing Wi Song Lak, a member of the parliamentary intelligence committee, reported that Russia will send around 700,000 rice to Pyongyang. This agreement, the source claims, is detailed in the agreement between Russia and North Korea.
Apparently, Moscow, in exchange for military assistance from the DPRK, will help solve the food crisis in the country.
According to Wi Seong Lak, the relevant information is at the disposal of the South Korean National Intelligence Service. The same source recalled that the DPRK produces about 4 million tons of grain annually, but at least 5 million tons are needed to feed the country’s population.
“If the Russian Federation offers 600,000 to 700,000 tons of rice, this would be enough to cover more than half of the DPRK’s needs to meet annual demand.” – said.
South Korean intelligence also has information about Russian grain exports to the DPRK in 2023: only 50 to 100 thousand tons. Thus, in 2024, the supply will increase many times.
