Who will win the US elections and which option is best for Israel? Media evaluation

Ahead of the 2024 US presidential election, Israel faces questions about how the outcome of the presidential race will affect the country’s security and politics. Amid rising regional tensions and international uncertainty, the results of the US election could determine the level of support Israel faces in the coming years.

Channel 7 writes about this.

Donald Trump’s supporters maintain that his style, although extreme, is already familiar on the Israeli political scene. Under Trump, Israel could expect predictable support and possible strengthening of its tough containment policy toward Iran, especially on the nuclear issue. This approach is consistent with Israel’s beefed-up military regime, which has become more strident and intransigent in recent years, accepting the risk of open confrontation on multiple fronts.

For Israelis, however, electing Trump also carries potential risks. Trump’s policies of isolation and immigration repression do not always serve the long-term interests of international stability. During his last administration, the United States withdrew from the World Health Organization during the pandemic and tightened border policies. These actions, critics say, could weaken the United States’ position on the world stage and harm Israel, which depends on strategic support.

On the other hand, a possible presidency of Kamala Harris could continue with the current containment policy, which has already demonstrated pros and cons. This policy, aimed at balancing interests, supposedly supports allies, but at the same time, according to some analysts, it does not give Israel complete freedom of action in the region. It appears to many in Israel that it was this approach that led to the escalation of the situation, culminating in the events of October 7.

As a result, the US elections are perceived as critical for Israel’s future. If Trump is elected, he could help Israel implement tougher policies, which could be beneficial in the short term. However, in the long term, an alliance with a leader whose rhetoric and methods are controversial could complicate relations with other democracies and increase extremism.

Previously, Kursor wrote that Trump was losing support among Americans on the eve of the US presidential election.
