The government of Isabel Diaz Ayuso the treatment of the new Law on Higher Education, Universities and Science with the authorization this Wednesday by the Government Council of its putting into public consultation. The rule, as reported by this newspaper, aims to tighten the conditions required to open new private universities.
The text includes a “defense of plurality and freedom in classrooms” and will develop the basic state legislation on the matter “adapting it to the specificities and needs of the centres in the region”the regional executive said in a statement.
The Board of Governors has thus given the first step with the authorization of public consultation of the preliminary draft via its transparency portal.
The regional government’s goal is that this initiative, on which the Ministry of Education, Science and Universities has been working for months, responding to “challenges” such as funding, updating the research and science systemthe link between vocational training and the University, the recognition of new business centers and schools, the defense of “freedom and plurality” or the role that corresponds to artistic and sports education.
In the same way, This new standard will provide “a stable, complete and up-to-date legal framework” which responds “to the needs of technological research and innovation”, addressing aspects such as governance, planning, agents or professionals of the system, as well as stimulation measures for the transfer, exchange of knowledge and dissemination.
The autonomous Executive will constitute with this law on a single Council for Higher Education, Universities and Scienceswho will join the University Council and that of Science and Technology of the Community of Madridas well as higher education (vocational, artistic and sports) and which must meet at least once a year.
As part of this future law, the Díaz Ayuso government has proposed tighten the conditions for opening new “private business schools and universities”. Something that will be done at the regional level and that the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities already proposed in April with private universities, modifying the decree of creation and recognition of universities approved in 2021 by Minister Manuel Castells.
