COP29 Operating Company of Azerbaijan and “Azerbaijan Institute for Standardization” PHSH (AZSTANDART) jointly implemented the project of assessment of environmental sustainability of public catering facilities located on the territory of the city of Baku.
Oku.Az reports that the goal of the joint project, which began to be implemented at the beginning of October, was to promote the requirements of international and state standards in force in this field to ensure the ecological sustainability of public catering facilities, as well as to evaluate the activities of restaurants in accordance with sustainable activity standards. Within the framework of the project, an evaluation scale specially adapted to the requirements of ISO standards was created for the first time in the country.
The evaluation process was carried out free of charge by AZSTANDART based on the requirements of relevant international and state standards in accordance with the project objectives. The evaluation was carried out according to a series of criteria, such as energy efficiency, efficient use of water, classification and management of waste according to sustainability standards and compliance with safety standards by employees.
Within the framework of the project, several public catering establishments that participated in the evaluation and met the corresponding criteria received special ratings and their compliance with sustainability standards was confirmed. These signs, which will be placed at the entrance of the restaurant, will confirm the environmental sustainability, compliance and reliability of the facilities that have successfully passed the evaluation process. These certified restaurants will also appear on the map available on the official COP29 website.
Let us add that at the end of the evaluation, a report was presented with recommendations to each public catering establishment that participated in the process to improve their future activities in terms of environmental sustainability and adapt to advanced international practices in this field.
