New football rules will appear again. According to the Council for the International Football Association (IFAB), they are valid since July 1. And thus, also for teams that compete with each other in Switzerland. No, with such a “ordinary revolution” Painting-The newspaper calls this, this, of course, has nothing to do.
But a few little things will be different again, some of them first seem a little unusual for players, as well as for those who are engaged in games at the stadium or in front of the screens. The rules are not completely new. They were convicted, so to speak, at the U21 European Championships in June, as well as at the World Cup.
On the one hand, there is a new rule of the game. This is designed to prevent the goalkeeper of the team from holding the ball on the ball for not long to allow the temporary advantage. Until now, it has been so regulated that the referee – I felt – for six seconds whistled an indirect penalty for the enemy’s team.
Now the following is used: if the keeper holds the ball for more than eight seconds, there is an angular blow. The goalkeeper U21 DFB NOA Atibol did not like it. “Little noise and vanity” brings all this. Because: the referee should be visible to the last five out of eight seconds, means a calculation manually, considering it as a return count.
Captain’s rule continues to be applied
Just as you really know this from basketball. Conditional restrictions are often announced by the referee of the referee. Recently, basketball has not been the only sport from which the keepers of IFAB rules to make football more fair.
For example, rugby was transferred to Rugby. Even in the championship of men in 2024, UEFA decided that only the captain could talk with judges on complaints and decisions. This is intended to avoid the formation of packaging and violent discussions, insults and gestures. Since then, this rule has been in all German leagues and now remains at the European Championship.
And then there is a new rule of fine, which will probably be detected only in very rare cases. In the 16th round of the Champions League, from Atletico Madrid, something was very annoying: he slipped out during the penalty and accidentally touched the ball with both legs. The hit was not taken into account. And then Atletico also left Real Madrid.
Now the rule was relaxed. If a double touch occurs by accident, and the ball is on the network, the fine is repeated. Like tennis at the network video. You could almost assume that you already fell asleep here in a different sport.
What about Var?
At the same time, video signatures became naturalized in football. Something, which has been in other sports for a long time, such as fencing or tennis. According to the referee team, the purpose of this European Championship is to reduce the number of VAR interventions, as far as possible.
