The Archbishopric of Toledo presented this Monday, on the occasion of the Diocesan Church Dayits income statement corresponding to the year 1023, which closed with a good result in the ratio between ordinary income and expenses, notably a surplus of 11.12%, but the need to face the investment plan that it has put in place, and although it has generated emerging savings, it ultimately results in a deficit of 7.63%, which requires having to resort to bank financing in the amount of 1,687 660.75 euros. The total income amounts to 48,191.55 euros.

However, the diocesan treasurer, Anastasio Gómez, described this deficit as “affordable”, emphasizing that “We are a solvent diocese that pays what it owes. » and that “prudence guided the dynamics of the management behavior of these figures as an archdiocese”.

Anastasio Gómez also clarified that these final data on the deficit “are not worryingsince they are generated by the investment plan implemented and not by current expenses. We can say that the year 2023 was synonymous with savings, although this is not enough”, so we must resort to bank financing.

Regarding the income statement, which includes not only the archdiocese itself, but also the parishes, the primatial cathedral and the diocesan seminaries, as well as the Caritas Diocesana, it is emphasized that the jobs are dedicated to 17.53% to take care of the most needys for an amount of 8,165,085.93 euros. Likewise, 54.43% is allocated to conservation and rehabilitation programs both for the work which was carried out directly during the year 2023 and for the amounts paid in capital and interest on loans taken out for this purpose.

He also emphasizes that what is intended training centers It represents 6.62%, both for its maintenance and for the awarding of scholarships to our future priests, in the amount of 3,085,338.42 euros.

THE element used in human capital necessary, both from the clergy and the laity, to carry out these actions and many others, represents 21.41%, to the tune of 9,972,593.39 euros. Concretely, what is allocated to the salaries of priests and religious amounts to 6,767,309 euros, while the money allocated to the laity amounts to 3,205,284 euros.

One of the largest expenditure items is that dedicated to the conservation of buildings and operating expenses, with 11,342,898 euros, although The highest is the 14,011,765 euros dedicated to extraordinary expenses for new constructionsrehabilitation programs and other extraordinary expenses. Pastoral and assistance activities represent an expense of 8,165,085 euros.

On the resource or income side, the highest position is that of income from assets and other activitieswith 13,719,025 euros, while the contributions of the faithful through different means reached 10,878,802 euros. The other elements of income are the 6,564,025 euros of tax allocation, the 9,206,974 euros of other current income and the 7,821,812 euros of extraordinary income. All this makes a total income of 48,191,555 euros. Likewise, the diocesan treasurer highlighted “something that has never happened”, namely income of up to 18 million euros from the sale of real estate, whereas before it barely reached 15 million.

Tourism income

Another source of income is tourism, and in this sense Anastasio Gómez highlighted that throughout the current year 2024, tourism, and specifically visits to the main ecclesiastical monuments such as the Primatial Cathedral and those included in the “ tourist bracelet”, reached 2019 levels. Thus, in the period from January to October 2024, in the case of the cathedral, The number of visits amounts to 779,991 which represents a figure slightly lower than that of 2019, at 2.53%, although it is expected that for the rest of the year these figures may exceed the figure of 2019. In the case of ” tourist bracelet”, the increase was achieved compared to 2019. increased by 13.96% for a total of 118,260.
