The Generalitat Valenciana has asked the central government to implement 136 measures worth 31,402 million euros to mitigate the devastating effects of DANA in Valencia and activate “a recovery plan” at Ground Zero.
This package includes aid for the purchase of vehicles (1,464 million) that complement insurance benefits or payment of dependency benefits and Valencian inclusion income, as well as an additional double payment for the most vulnerable ( 65 million).
It also includes a line for the reconstruction of public infrastructure (2,687.45 million) and industrial zones (7,000 million). The execution of work to adapt canals to “avoid, prevent and anticipate future floods” (2.2 billion) is also requested.
The implementation of this plan is “fundamental and imperative, not only to mitigate material damage, but also to prevent future disasters and guarantee the safety of a population in a recurrent area vulnerable to this type of event.
This was announced by the regional president, Carlos Mazón, in an institutional declaration without asking questions, this Monday afternoon, following an extraordinary meeting of the regional government. Meanwhile, outside Palau, a group of people called for his resignation.
At the same time, the Valencian Executive approved direct aid of 6,000 euros for all families who suffered damage to their homes due to the storm, which will be addressed this week. The Consell will ask the government to complete it with 15,000 more.
Likewise, there will be a regional line of 200,000 euros intended to cover the urgent expenses that the municipalities concerned had to face. These two measures are part of the 250 million package announced a few days ago by Mazón.
On the other hand, as happened during the pandemic, all Valencian toilets will be declared an essential service. Mazón indicated that he would request to appear before the Valencian Cortes, in the coming days, to report on the situation and did not comment on the request of the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who asked this Monday to Pedro Sánchez to declare the national emergency.
