Cepsa launches ERE in its gas stations for 189 people and plans new services to compete with “low cost” stations

Gas stations in Spain are undergoing a complete transformation. It boom of thelow cost‘ or self-service and changes in consumer habits have ended up affecting conventional gas stations. And last year, it was hit even harder by the Increase in fraud in fuel sales.

This is why, Cedipsasubsidiary of the group CEPSAannounced the start of a process of labor regulations in its service station business to adapt it to the various developments affecting this market.

This file should be sent to a maximum of 189 people spread across 42 service stationswhich means a 2.8% of the 1,500 stations which display the Cepsa banner throughout Spain. It represents a 1.7% of the total workforce of the company which has 11,000 employees.

Company sources confirmed to this media the opening of the process and assured that “in an increasingly competitive market context, Cepsa has established a diversified model to meet the different needs of its customers.

“Not only to those who request services prime and more personalized attention through the Cepsa service station network, but also to those who prefer the most economical price in their refueling, through the network Ballenoil“.

In November a year ago, the company with the second largest number of gas stations in Spain announced an agreement to acquire Ballenoil, the Spanish market leader in so-called “low cost” gas stations, which today has more than 220 gas stations in Spain and a plan to reach 500 by 2027.

Sources close to the process indicated that the energy company will address this workforce adaptation process in the coming weeks with workers’ representation. In addition, it plans to implement measures to reduce the impact on employment.

One option is the possibility of voluntary membership in other service stations located within a maximum of 30 km from those to be closedso that people can be accommodated voluntarily, thereby reducing the impact of the workforce in the stations concerned.

The aim is to optimize the services offered by the company in an increasingly competitive market.

Business transformation

According to Cepsa on its website, where there is demand, the company transforms its network of gas stations into spaces prime with a wide variety of ultra-convenience store and catering servicesas well as multi-energy solutions to refuel on the road.

“We could even see gas stations with the possibility of taking full advantage of the waiting time to fill up or recharge an electric vehicle,” explain the well-informed sources consulted by EL ESPAÑOL-Invertia. The fast charging stations, usually placed on roads and highways, allow the car to be recharged to 80% in about 30 minutes, enough time to rest and enjoy the services offered by the gas stations.

Precisely, Cepsa is immersed in a process of transformation, with stations that will adapt to a premium, multi-energy, multi-comfort offer, with more restaurants and even some with parapharmacies.

All this, combined with a diversified strategy where it is planned to develop the model.low cost” by Ballenoil. Where there is no premium demand, we will build on the points developed by Ballenoil and continue to expand. In fact, there are plans to open 250 new service stations over the next three years.
