The complaint of the residents of Agstafa: “They took it and sold it, for 31 years we have not had drinking water or…”

Residents of Khatai village in Agstafa suffer from thirst. The residential area known as Iravanlılar Street in the village, with more than two thousand inhabitants and 420 farms, has been suffering from this problem for many years.

Residents say that due to a lack of irrigation water, trees in their gardens are drying up and they have to pay for drinking water.

“There was an artesian well near the school. It was enough for the whole village. Now the old women are forced to carry water in a cart. They took it and sold it. We have had no drinking water or irrigation water for 31 years,” complained the complainants.

The Regional Water Reclamation Service of the State Water Resources Agency said that relevant project documents have been prepared in order to establish a supply system in this area where there is no drinking water system. Regarding the issue of irrigation, the Regional Water Reclamation Service noted that the ditches extracted from wells for this purpose are in the municipality’s balance.

The municipality of Khatai village in Agstafa region has not expressed any position on the matter.
