Spanish team and Madrid sweep Ballon d’Or nominees to bid farewell to Messi

The groups, however, agree that Vinicius is the big favourite to win this individual award. His fine season, during which he contributed to the achievement of a new Champions League for Real Madrid, gives him many points in the quest for his first Ballon d’Or.

Without Messi almost 20 years later

The absence that fully confirms the generational change is that of Leo Messi. His Ballon d’Or last year had already caused a sensation due to the controversial nature of the decision, but this time he does not even enter the list of 30 candidates to revalidate the title.

After Cristiano Ronaldo was not among the best last year, it is now Leo Messi who is excluded from this list for the first time since 2005.

As for the best coach, the nominees for the Ballon d’Or were Luis de la Fuente, Pep Guardiola, Xabi Alonso, Carlo Ancelotti, Gian Piero Gasperini and Lionel Scaloni.

For the Kopa Trophy for the best young player, the nominees are Pau Cubarsí, Arda Güler, Lamine Yamal, Zaire-Emery, Alejandro Garnacho, Karim Konaté, Kobbie Mainoo, Joao Neves, Savinho and Mathys Tel.
