Navarra opens a new day center in Pamplona to welcome children aged 3 to 16

He Department of Social Rights, Social Economy and Employment of the Government of Navarra invested 662,014.49 euros in the renovation of the Day center for minors from 3 to 16 years old who are situation of risk of lack of protection. The center located rue Urzainqui in Pamplonatreated 31 minors this year.

THE Minister of Social Rights, Social Economy and Employment of the regional executive, Carmen Maeztu, visited the new center facilities accompanied by the general director of the Navarrese Agency for Autonomy and People Development (ANADP), Inés Francés, as well as representatives of the Xilema Foundation, a non-profit entity responsible for managing the center.

As explained by advisor Maeztu During the visit, through this Day Center, a service is provided to meet the needs of children and adolescents at risk of lack of protection, with the aim of “promote the integral development of each minor without removing him from his family and social context, seeking maximum autonomy and well-being.” In this sense, underlined Maeztu, “the Day Center constitutes an observation space from which to detect other needs that recommend other types of interventions”.

This service meets two main objectives, indicated the Executive. On the one hand, the preservation of the family ensure the permanence of minors at risk with their families and, on the other hand, the family supplementation offering support to children and their families in the fundamental needs of family functioning which allow coexistence. The service of Day center has taken care of 167 minors since 2019.

Through educational activitiesThe Government added that those who use this service acquire skills that promote integral development, with emphasis on social and emotional aspects, promoting their inclusion in the environment. In addition, the center’s professionals work with the families of these minors in order to strengthen family ties and improve parenting skills that allow the minor to remain in their family and community environment.

For her part, the Director General Inés Francés highlighted the commitment of the Government of Navarra to the strengthen family preservation resources “understanding that the objective of intervention in the area of ​​lack of protection is the prevention and preservation of children and adolescents in their family and community environment.” “For this reason, we emphasize intervention in situations of light, moderate and serious risk, with the aim of minimizing the risk and avoiding arriving at more serious situations,” he stressed.

Likewise, the coordinator of the Day Center, Sara Fernández, underlined the “global” nature of the interventions, while takes care of minors but also their familiesand the actions are also coordinated with other resources that concern them such as schools or health centers.

As he explained, the objective of the team (made up of six educators, a social worker and two psychologists) is to ensure that the minors have as “normalized a routine as possible”, to try to guarantee preservation of minors with their families.

Fernández explained that the center carries out different activities depending on the age of the children attendedfrom DIY to cooking workshops, including psychomotor activities, cinema sessions or debates. In addition, he added that on Friday and Saturday mornings there would be excursions to natural environments and sporting or cultural practices.

This center, which has 18 places, serves children and adolescents of Pamplona individually and in groups, across three age groups: 3 to 6 years old, 7 to 11 years old and 12 to 16 years old. Minors attend this center after school hours from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday to Friday; and from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Furthermore, during the holiday period (Christmas, Easter and summer) the center remains open Monday to Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

FACILITIES

THE construction sitewhich was developed by the construction company Conslau SL, is part of the collaboration agreement signed between the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030 and the Provincial Community of Navarra, and was developed thanks to European funds from recovery and resilience mechanism (RRM).

The work consisted of adaptation of a premises attached to the ANADP in which a computer workshop, several multipurpose rooms, an industrial kitchen for workshops, a dining room, a lounge area and an administrative space have been set up. In addition, the facilities have accessible bathrooms and changing rooms.
