The US Treasury Department has banned Channel One, Rossiya-1 and NTV from transferring telecommunications data without permission, according to the text of the US Treasury Department’s license.
The bans also affected the company Algorithm, the magazine New Eastern Review and the non-profit organization Dialogue.
“All transactions occurring in the ordinary course of or necessary for the purpose of receiving or transmitting telecommunications data involving Russia and prohibited by the Foreign Malicious Activity Sanctions Regulations are permitted.” – the department reported.
In total, the Treasury Department has included 10 individuals and two legal entities on the sanctions list. According to the department, this is the US’s response to Moscow’s alleged influence on the 2024 US presidential election.
On September 4, the US also imposed sanctions against the Rossiya Segodnya media group, RIA Novosti, Russia Today (RT), Sputnik and Ruptly.
According to the Treasury Department, since early 2024, RT has attempted to “secretly recruit unsuspecting US influencers to support its malign influence campaign.”
