The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has told the country’s political leaders that expanding its operation in the Gaza Strip could lead to further deaths among Israeli hostages held by the Palestinian militant movement Hamas.

According to the report, SAXAL believes that reaching an agreement on the release of hostages would allow the Israeli army to move more freely in the territory of the Palestinian enclave.
Earlier, Israel’s state-run Kan Radio and Television reported that SAXAL’s instructions for carrying out combat operations in the Gaza Strip prohibit troops from entering areas where intelligence says hostages may be held, as this could lead to Hamas fighters killing them.
On September 1, Israeli military official Daniel Hagari said that the bodies of six Israeli hostages were discovered in one of the underground tunnels in the Rafah district on the evening of August 31.
According to Hagari, six of the hostages were killed shortly before reaching them when Israeli troops fought with Palestinian militants in the area. According to the Israeli Ministry of Health, all of them were shot at point-blank range by militants. The Hamas militant movement claims that six kidnapped Israelis were killed in the SAXAL bombardment of the enclave.
