A few days ago, the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) informed its students, by email, of some events that occurred last Thursday. Apparently, that afternoon, an individual “in a state of mental confusion and intoxication” approached a group of dual degree philosophy and law students and warned them not to attend the lectures. class next Tuesday because he was preparing to commit a shooting in the faculties of philosophy and philology.

In the same email, the university center provided some peace of mind to students and recommended that “life on campus continues normally, while the latest investigations are carried out to exclude any risk.” “The safety of our community is our top priority and we are taking all necessary measures to ensure it,” they noted.

In the press release, they explain that the UCM Control and Security Unit is coordinating investigations into these events in collaboration with the National Police, as well as taking the necessary reinforcement measures to guarantee security on campus. These investigations concluded that there was no evidence to support the assumption of risk above the usual level. This was announced yesterday afternoon by the dean of the Faculty of Philology, Isabel Durán, to the students.

Yesterday, the National Police and the UCM were jointly investigating the veracity of the shooting threat against university facilities. “During this morning, I had a very long meeting with the deans of philology, geography and history and law, the vice-rector for students and the main police officer who is leading the investigation,” said the dean in another email. And he concluded that today the activity in the threatened faculties will be the same as the rest of the days.
