The owners of a Berlin hotel have named a conference room after a Nazi concentration camp.

The management of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer House hotel in Berlin has named the hotel’s conference room after the Flossenburg Nazi concentration camp, the tabloid Bild reports.

In such a controversial way, the owners of the guest house wanted to perpetuate the last stage of the life of a Protestant theologian and participant in the anti-Nazi conspiracy. Dietrich BonhoefferThe hotel is named after Bonhoeffer. Like more than 30,000 other prisoners, Bonhoeffer was executed during World War II in the Flossenburg concentration camp, located near the town of the same name in Bavaria.

“Flossenburg as the place of his martyrdom and death is, of course, part of his life. For us, this, like the name of our entire hotel, is a sign of the memory of one of the greatest theologians of the 20th century.” — the hotel manager commented on the name Stefanie Jungerkes.

The Flossenburg Hall is one of seven lecture halls named after various places connected with the theologian’s life, he said. However, as the president of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Foundation pointed out, Turkish violaThe choice of the name of a concentration camp where more than 100,000 prisoners suffered grueling labour during the war is not the most appropriate way to perpetuate the memory of one of the most famous martyrs of the 20th century.

“I wouldn’t want to sit in a room called Auschwitz or Buchenwald.” – he summarized.
