The Valencia Civil Guard has opened an investigation against two drivers, aged 72 and 84 respectively, for a alleged crime against road safety when traveling in the opposite direction on the A-7. The first case ended in a road accident with a seriously injured person and the second was detected by a motorist patrol of the traffic sub-sector who managed to stop the driver before a tragedy occurred.
The first of the reported events occurred at around 11:30 am on Friday 29 August, when several warnings were received about a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction on the A-7 near Llarena de Ranes, which ended up causing a head-on collision at km 397 resulting in one serious injury and two minor injuries.
The driver, a 72-year-old man of Spanish nationality, was investigated for a crime against road safety, for reckless driving, by the Xátiva accident investigation team, according to a statement from the armed institute.
Then, around 12:30 the next day, a patrol belonging to the Traffic Detachment of Xativa who was riding a motorcycle, detected the presence of another vehicle that was joining the A-7 in the opposite direction, this time at km 395, near Xátiva and coming from the CV-58.
The quick and risky action of the sergeant and the Civil Guard who made up the patrol managed to intercept and stop this vehicle, thus preventing a serious road accident from occurring.
The driver, an 84-year-old man of Spanish nationality, was also investigated for an offence against road safety for reckless driving. It should be remembered that this type of offence can result in prison sentences of imprisonment of up to two years and disqualification from driving for up to six years.
