German police shot dead a gunman near the Israeli consulate in Munich.

A man armed with an assault rifle was killed this morning by German police near the Israeli consulate and a Nazi museum in Munich, the country’s third-largest city. Authorities did not provide details on the identity of the suspect, whose death they confirmed, or on the coincidence of the date with the anniversary of the terrorist attack on the 1972 Israeli Olympic team, known as the Black Septemberleads several media to establish relations with this event.

City police spokesman Andreas Frank reported that the suspect had exchanged gunfire with the officers deployed and that there was no evidence that the deceased was accompanied. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser called the incident “serious,” and the Israeli consul in Munich praised the swift action. “This shows how dangerous the rise of anti-Semitism is,” he said. “It is important that public opinion speaks out against this measure.”
